Each component of IBM Tivoli Storage Manager has its system & Software requirements. Below I am bringing your attention to the requirements of each component. Please visit IBM website for the latest requirements for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Components as its an always updated document.

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager ISC & Administration Center requirements:

If you remember from day one Administration Center is a web-based interface that can be used to centrally configure and manage IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Servers. It’s actually your main GUI interface to manage your TSM Server. Administration Center integrates into IBM Integrated Solution Console referred to it as ISC. ISC is an IBM Web sphere application which allows you to install and access components provided by multiple IBM applications. Hmmm, if ISC & Administration Center are still not clear to you don’t worry it will get to be clear when you finish the installation of ISC & Administration Center and start using them.
Ok, let’s get back to the point. IBM Tivoli Storage Manager ISC & Administration requirements are often updated and can be found at IBM TSM Site Here. A list which was the most updated when this article was written is below, but always refer to IBM TSM site as pointed earlier for the most updated version.
|
 TSM Administration Center Version 5.5
 |
|
 Hardware
 |
The machine hosting the Administration Center and Integrated Solutions Console requires the following:
-
- Disk space: To install the console on a system for the first time, the user needs 982 MB to satisfy the installation program disk space check and an addtional 300 MB of temporary space.

- To update an installation that already has Integrated Solutions Console (ISC) V6.0.1 installed from previous versions of the Administration Center, the user needs 400 MB of installation program disk space and 225 MB of temporary space.

- 500 MB for the completed installation

- Virtual memory/swap space: Equal to double the system’s physical memory. At a minimum, this should be at least equal to the system’s physical virtual memory.

*See the table below for additional hardware and software requirements for your specific platform/operating systems.
  |
|
 Operating System
 |
The machine hosting the administration center can be the same machine as the server if it meets the hardware/ software requirements and is running one of the operating systems shown in the table below. |
|
 Communication Protocol
 |
Network connectivity: To use the console across a network, the following items are required for the machine:
-
- Network adapter and connection to a physical network that can carry IP packets. For example, Ethernet.

- Static IP address.

- Configured fully qualified host name. Integrated Solutions Console must be able to resolve an IP address from its fully qualified host name. To verify that the host name is configured correctly, the user can issue the ping command from a command line. An example command is:

ping hostname.yourco.com
where, hostname.yourco.com, is the fully-qualified host name.
  |
|
 Additional Software
 |
The Tivoli Storage Manager Administration Center Web interface for the server and a Web client interface for client machines require a Java Swing-capable (at JRE 1.4.2) Web browser:
-
- MS Internet Explorer 6.0, or later with Java Plug-in 1.4.2

- Mozilla 1.6, or later

For platform and browser-specfic JRE notes, see the README file available with the product. |

OK, I can hear you saying you want to get your hand dirty. Guess what!! You are ready to get them so dirty that you will need to wash them after Day 3. So head on to Day 3 to learn the installation process. Ah forgot to say, Day 3 will be posted very soon.

do you know how to clear a database in v3.3 in order to start again and re,ove old data without rebuilding the system
Do you mean TSM V3.3?
Sorry I have not got the chance to even play with that version at all. I believe its time for your to upgrade.
